Winter Sowing for the Food Bank 🌱

This winter, we’re coming together to support the Rockland Community Garden’s donation garden, which provides fresh produce for the local Food Bank.

beginning the process of winter sowing for the local Food Bank

By participating, children will not only learn about sustainable gardening but also play an active role in growing food for those in need.

What is Winter Sowing?

Winter Sowing is an innovative gardening method where we plant seeds outdoors during the winter months using repurposed plastic containers as mini greenhouses. This process allows seeds to germinate naturally, making it a perfect way to grow strong seedlings—without the need for indoor space or heat lamps.

Who Can Join?

This program is designed for children ages 4–12, offering a hands-on experience in gardening, sustainability, and community giving. It’s a great opportunity to connect with nature while helping to grow food for families in need.

Program Details:

📅 Date: February 22nd

🌱 Activities:

- Learn about Winter Sowing and how it supports sustainable gardening

- Start planting for our donation garden in partnership with the Rockland Community Garden

Why It Matters?

Every seed we plant will help grow fresh produce for the Food Bank, ensuring that families in our community have access to healthy, homegrown food.

We want to acknowledge that we play, learn & explore on the stolen lands and unceeded Anishinabewaki territory of the Anishinaabe people; and the lands of the Omamiwininiwag (Algonquin) people and Kanien'kehá:ka (Mohawk) people of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy of six nations.

We offer an inclusive space by honoring everyone’s unique being, their race, their individual beliefs, language, religion & gender identities & fluidities. We honor our human peer’s pronouns and consistently respect & use them. We extend love to all our living relations by fully respecting all individual needs without judgment.
